In 1900, the Chief Military Prosecutor, colonel Georgi Agura wrote the lyrics of the new anthem of the Principality of Bulgaria, on music composed by Emil Zauer. In 1925, the new music of the royal anthem, composed by Emanuil Manolov to the same lyrics, was approved. It was the anthem of King Boris III. According to the state protocol, the anthem “God Save Our Tsar*” was performed after the national anthem “Shumi Maritsa”.
ANTHEM OF HM THE TSAR
Lyrics by: Georgi Agura Music by: Emanuil Manolov
Almighty God of Justice, We implore you to protect our Tsar. Endow him with strength To crush all foes.
For the foes' defeat And a bright future Grant, o Lord, the Tsar of Tsars, Sunlit days to our Tsar.
And to the people of Bulgaria Grant, o Lord enlightened mind, To thrive in love And prosper all together.
And through accord To grow in strength and will. Through progress let it, o Lord, Attain a name of glory!
* Tsar is the Slavic title for some monarchs. It is equivalent to that of King. Tsar is occasionally spelled csar or tzar in English. | |
